Port Overview
- Staged development of a 300mtpa port system to cater for Guinea’s large bulk commodities potential
- China Construction and Communication Company (“CCCC”) appointed for feasibility studies
- Construct a multi-berth bulk handling terminal that can be expanded from 100mtpa to 300mtpa
- Matakan confirmed as port location
- SEIA and EIA due for completion Q4 2011
- Preliminary port layout designs complete
- Bathymetric surveys are complete and cover an area of 570 km2
- Oceanographic , meteorological and land surveys will be completed in Q4 2011.
Rail Overview
- Staged development of a 300mtpa rail system to cater for Guinea’s large bulk commodities potential
- China Rail Eryuan Engineering Company appointed as engineering consultants
- First 74km of rail route from proposed port at Matakan to Moussaya has been agreed in principle with the Government
- Will link Forécariah operations to Matakan port
- Rail route geotechnical drilling and surveys have started on first 74km
- Agreed alignment within Bellzone’s exclusive rail corridor
- Topographic survey has been completed
- Geotechnical surveys have been completed
- Option studies on the rail route from Moussaya to Kalia have been completed and the preferred option route has been approved in principle by the Government
Accord
In August 2010 the President of Guinea decreed an Infrastructure Accord to Bellzone for an exclusive corridor to build rail and port facilities to export iron ore production from Kalia Mine.
